It’s a lengthy story. I began researching the life of John Newcombe and the worlds of 1960s and 1970s professional tennis way back in 2011. By 2013, I had a two-act play for four actors beginning with Newk in the early 1960s and working through to his life just before turning seventy in 2013. This version of the plays remains unproduced although I remain hopeful that one day it may see the light of day. In 2015, I began working on a much cheaper to stage one-man adaptation of the original script. Set in 2014, at Newk’s 70th birthday, this version will have its debut during the first week of the Australian Open in 2019 – Mon Jan 14 to Sat Jan 19. Newk will be played by three time Barry Award nominee, Damian Callinan. It’s a project I’m really looking forward to working on. Stay tuned for more details.

In The Mens which began its life way back in December 2008 at the Tap Gallery, Sydney, and was then remounted at the La Mama Courthouse in May last year, returns in another fresh guise in June 2018. Featuring Ben Maclaine and Ben Grant from the La Mama Production, the show has now extended in length and added Matthew Charleston (Sons of Sun). On Fri June 1st the show plays at Kingston Arts Centre in Moorabbin. On Sat June 2 it goes into country Victoria to the town of Yarck. More details soon.

The planned Sons of Sun show for Friday 27th October in Thirroul NSW has been cancelled. The two Sydney Opera House shows on Fri 3rd and Sat 4th November are selling well. Please click below for ticket information.

The Truth is Longer Than a Lie will have two performances on Monday November 27th at 12.30pm and 7pm at Monash Hospital, Clayton in the main theatrette. This will be the shortened 50 minute version followed by a Q and A. More details soon.

The play in its entirety will have New York performances in October 2018 in a co-production with theatre activist collective – 4thUArtivists. The group select two shows per years on important social issues such as child abuse and the proceeds of the play go to relevant organizations to aid support in the fight against various scourges on our society. Giovanni Boccaccio was a 14th century Italian writer whose 700th birthday was in 2013. In 2013, Brown Univesity in Rhode Island held a competition for modern day adaptations of his short stories/novellas. My futuristic Los Angeles adaptation of two young men having to carry a dead death metal singer across a treacherous city in order to win the love of a fussy princess finished second. Now, the play will be performed on July 28th and July 30th at the Art of Adaptation Festival in Chicago. Directed by former Brisbane, now Chicago-based theatre director, Bec Willett. Well-known and highly versatile Melbourne actor Dennis Coard has added Australia’s Oldest Man to a series of short plays he will be performing as part of La Mama’s 50th birthday celebrations. Coard’s show is entitled ‘In Search of the Lost Coard’ and it’s a presentation of his best work over a number of years. Australia’s Oldest Woman, the sequel to Australia’s Oldest Man, finds Katya at 124 years old, banned from nightclubs and looking for love online while her butler takes a much needed holiday. Performed by Clara Francesca and directed by Timothy McCown Reynolds, the duo reverse roles for this piece. First show is 9.30pm Sat July 15 and the second performance is 2.30pm on July 16 @ the Jewel Box Theater Manhattan.

Over the past eighteen, in collaboration with actor Caroline Ferguson, we’ve developed a fun and energetic show about the fashion designer, 1970s TV star and cabaret singer, Jeanne Little. A one-woman show featuring stories from Jeanne’s life and also utilizing plenty of famous songs from the 60s and 70s, the show is now up and running and will be performed at many aged care facilities throughout Melbourne and beyond in 2017.
